(in album). - Note Majority of photographs of West Newton with handwritten captions describing photographs - The Newell family moved from Colrain, Massachusetts to West Newton, leaving their farming roots to become successful merchants, inventors, and manufacturers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The family photograph album shows family members, their houses (interior, exterior and grounds), family homesteads, farms, mills, views from their Boston offices, and their West Newton neighborhood. - County fair grounds, tents, draped fence, entrance booth, antique automobile parked in foreground, signs reading: County Fair, Oct. 2-3-4, West Newton, Given by the ladies of the Second Church in Newton, Horse Show, Side Shows, Stock Show, Athletic Meet, Merry-Go-Round, Band Concerts, Moving Picture Shows, Continuous performances in the Big Tent. Fair opens at 12 o'clock, Thurs. Oct. 2 other days 10 AM to 10 PM. Highland, Margin and Chestnut Sts. Automobiles may be parked at the corner of Highland and Washington Sts. Entrance to the County Fair, caption: "County Fair" held at corner of Chestnut and Margin Sts West Newton, Mass. to raise funds to start the new Congregational Church. - Page 67 -
