World War II tower on the Princeton Common

  • – Tower used to spot planes during World War II on the Princeton Town Common in Princeton, Massachusetts. It was used as a back-up to the tower on Mount Wachusett during foggy weather. Inside was a telephone to alert Hanscom Air Force Base. The tower was manned mostly by women and children.

World War I disinfecting machine

description
  • – The photograph is of the thrash steam-drive disinfector, a disinfecting machine used by the 26th army division. A group of soldiers stand waiting to receive their clothes. One of the two steam vats is open and the wire basket containing the disinfected clothing is being removed. The clothes were steamed at a temperature of 238 degrees Fahrenheit and at a pressure of 7 to 10 pounds for 30 minutes. The photograph was taken in Saacy, France on August 10, 1918.
