Balance Rock is evidence of the glacial activity which shaped the mountain: the two large boulders were stacked one on top of the other by moving glaciers thousands of years ago.

Summit House Poster, Mount Wachusett
description- – Commemorative print showing the history of the Summit Houses on the top of Mount Wachusett in Princeton, Massachusetts from 1870 to 1970. Included are drawings of the three summit houses, the dates of their existence, and brief descriptions of their history and importance. The commemorative print says the house was scheduled to be razed in 1970 to make way for a new recreational facility, but before this occurred the third and final Summit House burned to the ground on December 18, 1970.

Third Summit House, Mount Wachusett
description- – Commercial photograph of the third Summit House on Mount Wachusett in Princeton Massachusetts built by John C.F. Murick in 1907. The text proclaims that the Summit house was open from May to October, the manager was E.W. Needham and that Wachusett Mountain is 2,015 feet above Sea Level [and the highest point East of the Berkshire's in New England]. The 14 bedroom hotel was operated by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from 1908 through the middle of the 1930's when it stopped having overnight lodging. The third Summit House burned to the ground on December 18, 1970

Second Summit House, Mount Wachusett
description- – The second Summit House built in 1884 by Phineas A. Beaman on the top of Mount Wachusett in Princeton, Massachusetts. Called the"Tip Top", the hotel contained 30 rooms with water supplied by the windmill on the shore of Summit Pond. Tourist business was very brisk during the season that ran from May 20 to October 15th and was estimated to be around 30,000 visitor a year at its peak. Stagecoaches would pick up patrons from the Princeton Train Depot and bring them to the top of Mount Wachusett.

Advertisement for the Wachusett House, Princeton, Massachusetts
description- – Full page advertisement for the Wachusett House in the Princeton Directory for July 1881. The Advertisement includes a print of the hotel by Rand McNally. P.A. Beaman and Son are listed as the proprietors. Phineas Beaman, a Princeton resident, purchased the Wachusett House in 1860, and the Beaman family ran the hotel until it burned in 1910. The Wachusett House was located on the southern end of the Princeton Town Common on what is now Dingman Park.

Wachusett House, Princeton Mass.
description- – A postcard showing the Wachusett House Hotel as seen from the town common in Princeton, Massachusetts. Guests on the porch watch the preparation for games of croquet and lawn tennis, favorite pastimes for the summer tourists who visited Mount Wachusett in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Wachusett House was located on the southern end of the Princeton Town Common on what is now Dingman Park. On November 28, 1910, the Wachusett House was destroyed in a fire and was never rebuilt.

Wachusett House fire, Nov. 28, 1910
description- – A postcard showing the fire that destroyed the Wachusett House in Princeton, Massachusetts. The photograph was taken at 11:00 AM on November 28, 1910, shortly after the fire started. The Postcard shows damaged furniture taken from the building while the blaze was in progress. The fire caused 30,000 dollars in damage. The Wachusett House was located on the southern end of the Princeton Town Common on what is now Dingman Park.

Original Summit House on Mount Wachusett
description- – The original Summit House on Mount Wachusett in Princeton, Massachusetts. Men sit on chairs on the roof while others gaze out the windows or sit in front. A horse and cart can be seen on the left. The Summit House was built in 1870 by William G. Morse. Morse actually started the summit house in 1866 when it was just a stand at the top of Mount Wachusett that sold candy and cigars that were delivered by pony cart.

Wachusett Mountain House
description- – View of the Mountain House in Princeton, Massachusetts. taken from the south and showing the summit of Mount Wachusett. The staff quarters which also included a bowling alley and a tea room are shown across the street from the main hotel. The Mountain House opened around 1860 and by 1880 held up to a hundred guests. The main building was destroyed by a fire on July 11, 1914.

Wachusett Lake and Mount Wachusett
description- – View of Mount Wachusett with Wachusett Lake in the foreground. The photograph is taken from Princeton road in Princeton, Massachusetts's"Everettville". The lake is a mile and a half long and was a favorite destination for swimming, fishing and even steamboat rides in the late 19th century. Mount Wachusett rises about 1,000 feet above the lake.

Rustic House on Mount Wachusett
description- – Gathering of people at the Rustic House near the summit of Mount Wachusett in Princeton, Massachusetts. The Rustic House was off the Old Indian Trial near the Summit. The shelter was destroyed by the New England Hurricane, or Great Hurricane, of 1938.
