In the distance on the right is the Wachusett House which burned in 1910. In front of the Wachusett House are a group of people playing croquet, a favorite pastime for the summer tourists who visited Mount Wachusett in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Summit House Poster, Mount Wachusett
description- – Commemorative print showing the history of the Summit Houses on the top of Mount Wachusett in Princeton, Massachusetts from 1870 to 1970. Included are drawings of the three summit houses, the dates of their existence, and brief descriptions of their history and importance. The commemorative print says the house was scheduled to be razed in 1970 to make way for a new recreational facility, but before this occurred the third and final Summit House burned to the ground on December 18, 1970.

Princeton Depot, Princeton, Mass, c1900
description- – Princeton Depot located on Hubbardston Road, now Route 62, in Princeton Massachusetts. At its height in the early 1900s as many as eight trains a day passed through the station. The photograph shows the coaches that would take tourists up to the top of Mount Wachusett. Other passengers are shown waiting on the platform deck. The coach ride to the top of Mount Wachusett was a two mile uphill trip.

Buck's Mill chair factory, Princeton, Massachusetts, early 1900s
description- – Photograph of Buck's Mill chair factory in Princeton, Massachusetts in the winter. In 1880, Thurston and Eugene R. Buck purchased the Ephraim Wilder chair manufacturing mill on Sterling Road near the Princeton - Sterling line. In 1914, two 65 horse power boilers were added. The mill continued to operate until the late 1940s.

Third Summit House, Mount Wachusett
description- – Commercial photograph of the third Summit House on Mount Wachusett in Princeton Massachusetts built by John C.F. Murick in 1907. The text proclaims that the Summit house was open from May to October, the manager was E.W. Needham and that Wachusett Mountain is 2,015 feet above Sea Level [and the highest point East of the Berkshire's in New England]. The 14 bedroom hotel was operated by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from 1908 through the middle of the 1930's when it stopped having overnight lodging. The third Summit House burned to the ground on December 18, 1970

D.H. Gregory&Co. Store, Princeton, Massachusetts
description- – A photograph of the interior of the D.H. Gregory&Co. Store and the proprietor, Malcom Chase, in Princeton, Massachusetts, during the1950s. D.H. Gregory&Co. Store was established in the 1840s when the town's population was around 1,400. Originally, goods for the store were pulled by a team of 6 horses from Boston through Worcester. Straw hats, made by local women in their homes, were sent back as return goods. In the 1860's Princeton became a popular summer resort town and the store flourished. Over the years, the D.H. Gregory Store housed more than just merchandise, and had a dining room and kitchen, and a mail and telephone office. The store finally closed in the 1970's.

Redemption Rock Association meeting, 1879
description- – Redemption Rock Association members gathered to commemorate the release of Mary Rowlandson of Lancaster, Massachusetts in 1879. Mary Rowlandson was taken captive during King Philip's War on February 10, 1676 by the Narragansett Indians. After eleven weeks and five days of captivity she was ransomed for twenty pounds, raised by the women of Boston and paid by John Hoar of Concord at Redemption Rock near Mount Wachusett in Princeton, Massachusetts on May 2, 1676. Mary Rowlandson wrote a book on her experiences entitled,"A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson."

Boylston Villa, Princeton, Massachusetts, c1908
description- – A postcard showing the Boylston Villa in Princeton, Massachusetts. Ward Nicholas Boylston built Boylston Villa as a summer home in 1819 on the former Governor Gill estate. Construction was overseen by Asher Benjamin, the author of"The Practical House Carpenter."(1789) and an architect from the Charles Bulfinch firm. Changes to the Villa were made in 1853 when Boylston's daughters were married. Along with the house, the original eight-seater, two-door octagonal outhouse still exists on the property today.

Redemption Rock postcard
description- – Postcard of Redemption Rock pictured with an enlarged detail of its inscription telling of the May 2, 1676 release of Mary Rowlandson who was taken captive during King Philip's War. Mary Rowlandson was captured on February 10, 1676 by the Narragansett Indians during a raid on Lancaster, Massachusetts. After eleven weeks and five days of captivity she was ransomed for twenty pounds raised by the women of Boston, and paid by John Hoar of Concord at Redemption Rock near Mount Wachusett in Princeton, Massachusetts. The inscription on the rock reads:"Upon this rock May 2nd 1676 was made the agreement for the ransom of Mrs Mary Rowlandson of Lancaster between the Indians and John Hoar of Concord King Philip was with the Indians but refused his consent."

World War II tower on the Princeton Common
description- – Tower used to spot planes during World War II on the Princeton Town Common in Princeton, Massachusetts. It was used as a back-up to the tower on Mount Wachusett during foggy weather. Inside was a telephone to alert Hanscom Air Force Base. The tower was manned mostly by women and children.
