The special issue was sent out to announce the award of the First Annual Green Carnation Award to Joseph Carr for"another outstanding furniture collection". Joseph Carr had been a furniture designer for Heywood-Wakefield since 1937, after being promoted from the finishing department. He worked on many furniture lines, including Old Colony and Publick House lines. Joseph Carr was also a noted artist, cartoonist, and sculptor, and after Heywood-Wakefield Company closed in 1979, he continued to design furniture, including working for S. Bent&Brothers, Inc.
