Dog Furniture by W. Joseph Carr

  • – The cover of the May, 1975 Special Issue of Hey-Wake-Up, the Heywood-Wakefield Company newsletter, showing W. Joseph Carr in 1937 holding his dog furniture design. The special issue was sent out to announce the award of the First Annual Green Carnation Award to Joseph Carr for"another outstanding furniture collection". Joseph Carr had been a furniture designer for Heywood-Wakefield since 1937, after being promoted from the finishing department. He worked on many furniture lines, including Old Colony and Publick House lines. Joseph Carr was also a noted artist, cartoonist, and sculptor, and after Heywood-Wakefield Company closed in 1979, he continued to design furniture, including working for S. Bent&Brothers, Inc.
